Organized religion is unpopular in Seattle. And yet, people have an intrinsic need for meaning in their lives. The question is, where does one find meaning in a place like Seattle given the absence or unpopularity of organized religion? In the film We Invent You, two University of Washington students explore the underground music scene as a place for meaning-making. I was honored to provide context and commentary as the narrator of the film, which you can watch below.
This series, given at Creator Lutheran Church in Bonney Lake (near Seattle), deals with classic and contemporary forms of atheism, exploring the work in particular of Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens. We examine, in turn, the response to the arguments against the existence of God by famous theologians within the Christian tradition.
This series is provocative and will challenge your faith. Those members who have participated in the entirety of this series, however, have emphasized how much it has strengthened their faith.
