About Sound Theology

Daniel J. Peterson, PhD

Lutheran Adult Education in the Puget Sound Region

Making theology come alive is no easy task.  As someone with a seminary degree and parish experience, I know personally that administrative duties, pastoral care and preparing for Sunday worship are just a few of the many things that can keep pastors from focusing on Christian education.

Here is where Sound Theology can help: every series offers an infusion of new and exciting interactive theological education — taught or overseen by a Lutheran professor of theology — that introduces newcomers to the Christian faith and helps veteran churchgoers (along with pastors and lay-leaders) explore the depth of their theological heritage in a safe and affirming class setting.pullquoteone

My name is Dan Peterson, and over the past four years as a professor of theology at Pacific Lutheran University (and now two years at Seattle University) I also taught adult education in a variety of local parishes. In this dual role I realized the great importance of theological education — not only as an academic enterprise for students, but as an essential part of living out the faith for members of Lutheran congregations.

I started Sound Theology based on the conviction thatgood theology matters to people of faith and that it should be a central part of church programming.

To make that happen, I’ve developed forums on topics that can easily fit into any church schedule — whether a congregation prefers evening classes, weekend workshops, or the time slated for adult education on Sunday morning.  These series range from “Radical Lutheran Theology” and “Great Lutheran Theologians” to “Reading Revelation: Decoding the Bible’s Most Dangerous Book.” Additional classes are available, as well.

Invigorate your adult education program by inviting me or one of my featured instructors to offer one of these classes at your church. “Now is the day of salvation,” says the Apostle Paul.  Now is the day of good theology — and with it the chance to deepen discipleship in your congregation with Sound Theology.
